WHAT YEAR/VINTAGE ARE THE EDGE'S RICKANBACKER
12-STRING(S):
The
Edge has a few Ric 330/12's. There is at least (1) Rickenbacker 360 (Jetglo), that you can see during "Gone" in the 2001 DVD
"Live From Boston".
I've
heard that he's bought a few 6-string Ricks too.
As
for vintage, Edge seems to favor mid-1960's vintage Rickenbacker guitars with their vintage 21 fret neck (vs. the
24 fret necks on post 1969 Ricks) and their vintage lo-gain pickups vs. the hi-gains that are standard on most models
today.
DOES EDGE REMOVE THE TOP PLATE OF THE PICKGUARD
TO HIS RICKS AND WHY?
The Edge does remove the top plate. As to why...
That is another good question that I will have to ask Dallas Schoo (His tech) if the opportunity arrises.
WHAT SONGS HAS EDGE USED RICKENBACKERS?
"Angel Of Harlem" (studio version)-fr. "Rattle & Hum".
"Love
Rescue Me" (studio & live))-fr. "Rattle & Hum".
"Even Better Than The Real Thing" (studio & live)-fr. "Achtung
Baby".
"Mysterious Ways" (studio & live),
"Gone" (studio & live) -fr. "Pop"
"Sometimes You Can't Make It
On Your Own" (studio & live) -fr. "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb"
I've heard that the original 1967 Fireglo
that he's used since the Rattle and Hum sessions was destroyed, not by The Edge throwing it to the floor [as seen in the
Boston Elevation tour DVD] but it was 'drowned' in a flood at their studio in Spring 2002. The Jetglo 360 also seen in
that video was a backup.
The 1967 was replaced by another Fireglo that he's been using for "Sometimes You Can't Make
It On Your Own" (during the 2005/2006 Vertigo tour). He's been playing a Mapleglo 330/12 for "Mysterious Ways" (during
the 2005/2006 Vertigo and 2009 U2:360 tours).
There are apparently identical backups for each. Plus I also saw Dallas Schoo (his tech) soundchecking a Jetglo 330/12 before one of
the Glendale, AZ shows this spring. (This is one that John Hall from Rickenbacker mentioned in the Rickenbacker forum, mentioning
that "Edge also has a new 330/12 JG that he's been using on the latest tour. It's one of the first ones
out there with the new through-head string slots."
As for pickups, all of The Edge's Rics, that I've seen, are
vintage guitars with vintage pickups.
